I Just Smashed One Of My Limiting Beliefs.
When I think back through my available memories of my childhood, I can remember one sentence that really stuck in my mind, that I used frequently.
I’m not even sure if that one sentence was directed at me or someone else in the family, yet I remember it as a clear day.
Now, when I think back, I have used this same one sentence over and over and over again, throughout my years of growing up and adult life, until just recently. Recently been 3 weeks ago.
“Paul, you have 2 left feet”
Whenever the subject of dancing came up, I would spurt out and say, “I can’t dance as I have 2 left feet”… This was my story I hung onto for too many years…
When I reflect back on what it cost me to harbor this limiting belief, I don’t want to go too deep, but here are just a few…
- Limited my social life where dancing was present…
- Missed out on learning a new skill…
- Opportunities are lost by not networking at these events…
- Loss of exercise and fun…
I Just Smashed One Of My Limiting Beliefs.
So…. 3 weeks ago I started some dancing lessons and it’s been so much fun. I’ve been attending classes and practicing almost every day. I’m starting to get some rhythm in my body (which I thought was impossible) and I’m really enjoying the fun and exercise at the same time.
Rumba, Cha Cha Cha, Tango…
When I return home at night I feel so good and sleep like a baby.
I’m not Fred Astaire or Michael Jackson yet, the teacher commented that I already have a good style and with more practice, I will be a very competent dancer…
Who would have ever thought?…
Next time you see me, ask me to show you one of my moves…HaHaHa…
My next limiting belief I will be exploring soon is to do with singing😊
Limiting beliefs are so subtle and insidious that we don’t even know or realize we have them. I teach this stuff, and still, I continue to discover them in the different areas of my life… It’s part of the human condition…
A belief is a thought or idea that we repeatedly think about, and talk about, that eventually becomes that belief that will either enhance our life or restrict our life. They are neither right nor wrong.
In my case, not being able to dance was just plain ignorance. I have never learned to dance, and never bothered to go to dancing lessons until recently.
Most of our limiting beliefs are fear-based due to ignorance, nothing based on reality.
Get educated and learn about any subject you have a limiting belief about and through knowledge and repetition, you too can smash your own limiting beliefs.
What’s one limiting belief that you know you have and you want to smash through it into an exciting and eventful 2021?
