How Do You Practice Yoga Outside The Classroom? This was a question I asked the class at the start of our 90 minute yoga session yesterday…
Everyone went quiet, staring up at the ceiling, searching for an answer…
Someone shouted out, relax, another said be calm, which are great answers…
This is how I see the way we practice our yoga skill Outside the classroom…
Firstly, what are we doing in the classroom….
Short version is that we are working our physical body, stretching, bending, twisting to stimulate and open up, in this case the body is under some physical pressure….
At the same time we are regulating our breathing, becoming aware of our breathing and controlling our breathing while our body is working harder…
Then we observe the mind, observe our thoughts, and keep the mind calm and peaceful while the body is now working even harder with its physical movement
We are essentially regulating, conditioning the mind and breathing to support our body while it’s under pressure, while it’s working hard…
It’s the same in life….
When we are at the office, the phones are ringing, colleagues are demanding and the boss is shouting, our body is under pressure…
We activate our breathing, we focus and observe our mind and bring them together to support our body while it’s under pressure….
We can apply the some principle in our personal life, our relationships, with our family and friends during times we feel our body is under pressure…
Uniting the body, mind and our breathing consciously to work together skyrockets our positive outcomes, increases our energy levels and creates health and equilibrium in our being…
That’s how we can practice yoga outside the classroom…
