5 Ways My Coach Supported Me To Grow & Develop

5 Ways My Coach Supported Me To Grow & Develop. Before I started using a regular coach, I wondered, how can a coach help me to develop and grow.

All they do, I thought, is talk, and how is that going to help me develop and grow?

Now that I have been using coaching services and being a coach for over 20 years, I know exactly how coaching can grow and develop coachees.

5 Ways a Coach Will Support You to Grow & Develop

1. Goal Setting: A coach assists in clarifying and setting specific, achievable goals aligned with the client’s values and aspirations.

2. Accountability: They hold the client accountable for their actions and commitments, encouraging consistency and follow-through.

3. Feedback and Reflection: Providing constructive feedback and facilitating self-reflection helps the client gain insights into their progress and areas for improvement.

4. Skill Development: Coaches offer guidance and resources to develop new skills, strategies, and behaviors that support personal and professional growth.

5. Overcoming Obstacles: They help identify and navigate obstacles and challenges, offering support and strategies to overcome setbacks and stay focused on the growth path.

One of my big wins in the early days was learning to confidently develop my public speaking and deliver training workshops, which at the time was non-existent.

I’m most definitely more of an introvert than an extrovert so it was so hard for me to come out of my introverted shell.

BIG BIG thanks to my coach who was with me every step of the way, and if it wasn’t for his support, encouragement, and knowledge, I would not be able to confidently speak in public and deliver my 6-day Leadership Communication Training Workshops.

This is part of the process he used throughout our coaching sessions.

5 Ways My Coach Supported Me To Grow & Develop

  1. Goal Setting: Once we set up my goal to be a confident public speaker and trainer, we, my coach and I, got to work.
  2. Accountability: My coach kept me accountable, and when it all got too hard, and I wanted to quit, he supported me a lot to keep me focused and on track with my goal.
  3. Feedback and Reflection: He gave me feedback that allowed me to reflect, gain new awareness, and correct my thinking, adjust my mindset, realign my behavior with my public speaking goal.
  4. Skill Development: He also recommended new skills and capabilities that I needed to learn and develop and the right strategies to get me to arrive at my goal faster. He recommended certain training and certifications that would allow me to further develop my skills. International certifications: NLP Prac 1 (7 Days), Master Prac (12 Days), Train The Trainer (20 Days). All working towards developing my skills to confidently deliver public speaking events and corporate and public training.
  5. Overcoming Obstacles: My coach supported me in identifying obstacles before they appeared and helped me when I got stuck. He was able to support me in keeping my state elevated through our weekly sessions so I could perform at, higher than normal levels, to take the next step towards my goal and break through all obstacles.

My public speaking and training skills have opened up so many opportunities and experiences that I would not otherwise be qualified to accept.

One of the most recent opportunities was an invite to Burundi, in East Africa, to deliver a Leadership Communication Training. It was a magical experience5 Ways My Coach Supported Me To Grow & Develop

These are just 5 ways (There are many more) a coach, the right coach for you, can help you develop and grow.
