IQ Without EQ Is A Long Queue
IQ Without EQ Is A Long Queue. Jason and his wife have been planning for over a year to take their two children Jacob and Marie on a camping trip for their summer vacation. The whole family have been so looking forward to it, especially the kids. This will be the very first time both Jacob and Marie are going camping.
It’s a lovely Saturday morning and the kids are up early, 5 am, in anticipation for the big adventure. Jacob and Marie have their bags packed with all the necessary clothes and equipment they will need during their camping adventure.
Dad has already made a list of all the things they will need to make this an awesome experience for all.
Dad checks off the list
– Tent….
– 4 sleeping bags…
– Tools, hammer, shovel, axe…
– Rope…
– Kitchen utensils….
– Fresh water…
– Toilet paper…
– Canned food…
– Games for the kids…
– Fire starter and matches…
Now everyone is helping by putting everything into the car. While they are loading up the car it looks like they are running out of room. Still, they continue to pack everything in nice and tightly.
Now it’s the final check before they all jump in and head off to the camping ground.
Looking good, final check comes up OK.
After such a long buildup over the last year and the high energy and excitement of packing the car to the roof, everyone takes their seat for the journey.
Dad puts the key in the ignition, turns it, and nothing. Absolutely nothing. The car is dead. Not working at all. Looks like we aren’t going anywhere.
Listen up…
It is exactly the same with IQ (Intelligence) and EQ (Emotional Intelligence).
IQ = Can be seen as all the goods we have packed into the car. All the knowledge we have about life, our career, general knowledge, specialized knowledge, our level of intelligence, all the books we have read on various subjects, all the training’s and workshops we have completed and a whole lot more.
EQ = Can be seen as the car, the vehicle, the transport (our body) that’s going to deliver the goods (intellectual knowledge) into the world.
It doesn’t matter how intelligent we are, IF, we fail to deliver it into the world in a likable and coherent way. The better our delivery, the higher our results and the better our life experience.
It doesn’t matter how much camping gear I have in the car, if the car is not functioning, I will not be able to use my camping equipment.
IQ is very important and we must learn, grow and develop our awareness.
EQ will give us the Soft Skills that will allow us:
– The ability to deal with one’s own negative emotions….
A) Reducing negative personalisation
B) Reducing the fear of rejection
– The ability to stay cool under pressure…
– The ability to stay proactive, not reactive in the face of a difficult person…
– The ability to be assertive and express difficult emotions when necessary…
– The ability to express intimate emotions in close, personal relationships…
IQ these day’s in business and in our personal lives is seen as a commodity, a standard, something we all expect to demonstrate.
Employers are now looking more towards one’s EQ and how they are able to manage themselves, their colleagues and teams around them.
Displaying IQ may get your foot in the door, EQ will determine how far you go.
