How We Value The Opinions Of Others More Than Our Own Beliefs.
How we value the opinions of others more than our own beliefs. Talking with a young lady yesterday and during the conversation she opened up and shared a few thing with me about her life….
Huyen is currently single and has no plan in the near future to get married and is enjoying her life this way at the moment….
Some of her friends keep telling her that she is making her mum sad because she is not married and doesn’t have any children….
When Huyen hears this kind of talk she gets, sad, upset and even angry and feels confused and doesn’t know how to deal with situations like this and similar…
We all have different beliefs based in our culture, upbringing, values and life experiences and we live our life according to our own personal beliefs…
For example….
In Vietnam the meat Pork is very popular and people love to eat and enjoy it….
In the middle East the meat Pork is seen as a dirty meat, bad and people there don’t eat it….
Now when we look a a peace of pork on our plate it is just pork, its just meat, its not good or bad…
What makes it good or bad in someone’s life is the story they make up about it and the values and beliefs they choose to live by….
Now back to Huyen…
If people choose to get married or stay single is not right or wrong…
We respect what others wish to do with their life so they too can respect us and what we choose to do with our life…
If someone chooses to be sad because of another person’s belief and the way they wish to run their life has nothing to do with us…
We are responsible for our own happiness not the happiness of others….
Huyen felt a release that she could live her life according to her values and beliefs and not feel guilty because other people choose to do exactly the same with their life…
