What is the Necessary Number One Key Attribute When Hiring?
What is the necessary number one key attribute when hiring people for your company to fulfill and important roll, for that matter, any roll?
There are many factors to be evaluated and considered to make sure you choose the best possible candidate.
Best possible candidate for the company and best position for the candidate. If the new employee is put in a position that’s not very suitable it will only be a matter of time before they leave. This will add further expense to the company and can also create friction and fallout with other staff members.
Key attributes to be considered when hiring:
– Stability in previous positions…
– Knowledge and skill set…
– Time spent in specific Industry…
– Junior / senior position…
– Ability to solve problems…
– Personality type…
These are just a few key attributes of a list of many that a good Human Resources professional could share with us.
With my experience of coaching and training with companies, business executives, managers and staff, I have noticed one key attribute that could be seen to be the necessary number one key attribute when hiring.
The Ability to be Flexible in Maintaining Positive & Empowering Relationships with other Colleagues and Partners.
Marie is a very qualified Pediatrician who is working at a local Medical Practice in Sydney Australia. She has only been working in her new roll for six months and has already achieved a name for herself with the quality of work she delivers to her patients.
Due to her skill and building reputation senior management want to elevate Marie to Medical Director of the clinic.
Marie accepts the new position and now has new responsibilities one of which is managing and working with more of her colleagues and staff.
3 months into her new position there is a revolt with many of her colleagues and staff.
Staff are upset and threatening to leave due to the way Marie is managing and working with them. She appears to have a revolt on her hands.
Marie is very fixed in her ideas, ways and behavior and it is impacting the staff in a negative way of this Medical Practice. Staff members feel alienated and are not happy.
Senior management decided to let Marie go despite of her qualifications and skill as a Pediatrician.
Understand this…
Qualification and skill are imperative to succeeding in your career BUT without the ability to get on with your fellow colleagues and staff members your days will be numbered.
Organizations are waking up to the fact that a harmonious work place, as much as possible, has a much higher upside than one or two staff members who are very skilled yet too disruptive to other employees and the company.
Here’s the deal…
Become a Genius in your career, developing your skill and a genius at communication and effectively working with people and you can pick and choose your own position and be successful.
