Can a Name, Title or Position Change Our Behavior?
Can a Name, Title or Position Change Our Behavior at first glance may seem like a ridiculous question.
Think about it. What’s been your experience in the past?
When you reflect on your own experiences, have you taken on a new position, say a manager’s position, with a new title and your behavior changed to match the responsibilities of the new position?
When I think about my previous titles and positions, I definitely see a change in behavior to match the new role.
I’ve even heard of people changing their name and with the new name, they did actually change their behavior. Possibly in this case they took on the characteristics they believed to be associated with the new name.
Recently I have been looking at different marketing tools and techniques to grow my business and share the same information with my clients.
The way we do business these days is changing and changing very fast.
SM, Social Media is very popular with many different options to connect online like Face Book, Instagram, LinkedIn, Twitter, Snapchat, Tumbler, YouTube, Cameo etc…
The list is almost endless with new Social Media platforms popping up every day.
Now, when I talk with my clients, colleagues and friends they all have a different view about Social Media. Some people are not even on Face Book and think it’s a waste of time. They rather socialize face to face with people they meet in person.
All these Social Media platforms on the internet are here to stay whether we like it or not, at the moment, it is the way of the future.
So, what does all this have to do with, Can a Name, Title or Position Change Our Behavior?
The word “Social Media” the name indicates it’s a social platform and not a business platform. So many of us are using it in a social way, as the name indicates.
Those of us who have businesses or want to start a business, instead of using it as a social platform we could use it as business platform to create more value and business for potential clients online.
Now some of us are already doing this…
What if we changed the name to “Business Marketing Media”, and see it as a platform to build our existing business’s or create a whole new business online.
Do you think changing the name would give you a different perspective and outlook on using these platforms in a more productive and positive way?
Treating these platforms like a business, adding value to potential customers, sharing your message and content, learning and growing, mastering the internet and using these platforms as “Business Marketing Media” which is definitely the way of the future could be more motivating than calling it Social Media and using it as a social platform?
The name “Business Marketing Media” motivates me (changing my behavior) to share my message online and add value through the different platforms.
That’s my thinking on the subject, what do you think?
