I am now too old to make changes in my life.
I am now too old to make changes in my life are the words that we may hear from time to time, or a lot, these days. There are many reasons we can manufacture as to why people don’t want to change…
– Too old…
– Too young…
– Not enough time…
– Too lazy…
– Can’t teach an old dog new tricks…
– Too hard
These are MY excuses so you very well may have a list of your own?
I am now too old to make changes in my life.
I have a question.
Do you remember when you were 10 years old and you would look at the adults around you who were in their 20’s, 40’s or even 50’s, God forbid, and you just could not imagine being that old?
Now we are back to the present moment and here we are in our 20’s, 40’s and 50’s. It arrived so fast, yet here we are.
Now really pay attention to what’s coming next… focus, look, listen and reflect.
When you compare your 20 year old body with your 50 year old body (53 years young at the end of this month, happy birthday to me) what is the difference, what has changed?
Yes, that’s right, our bodies have changed and depending on how we have looked after them, it is either stronger or weaker.
Listen carefully – what about our mind? Our mind is a spiritual faculty and it doesn’t age. That’s why in a 50 year old body I still can think like a 20 year old with the added bonus of 30 years of experience and hopefully wisdom.
Go into your mind now and notice if it feels older today than it did 30 years ago?
That’s why some people have physical injuries because their mind is trying to do a 20 years old sport in a 50 year old body. The mind has not taken into consideration that the body is getting older. Now if you have maintained your body that’s a different story.
Our mind is still agile and get’s (if we maintain it) better with age.
What does all of this have to do with change. Well, very simply the forum for change is our mind. We make a decision to change then we get our body to follow. It is not the other way around.
To make change in our lives, depending on the change, it could take days, weeks, months or even a year or two.
Here’s the deal…
If we were to make a substantial change in our lives, say, switch careers and we are 40 or 50 years old now it may only take maximum a year or two, depending on our current skill set, to transition.
Then we still have another 20 to 40 years or more of upside, enjoyment and benefit from the change.
Sometimes we have an illusion going on inside of our heads making up all sorts of stories not to change. Focusing on short term 1st consequences and ignoring 2nd & 3rd order consequences.
Look at the facts and make YOUR decision.
Whatever change I make now I can enjoy the benefits for the rest of my life. Do the math’s…
- How old am I now?
How long will it take to make this change?
How long can I enjoy the benefits until I leave this earth?
